Class B Sterilization Cycle (with Pressure & Vacuum Phases)
The Class B Autoclave follows a three-phase sterilization cycle that ensures complete penetration of steam, even inside hollow and wrapped instruments.
1. Pre-Vacuum Phase (0 to -0.9 bar)
Multiple vacuum pulses are created to remove air from the chamber. This drops the pressure to approximately -0.9 bar, allowing saturated steam to fully reach internal surfaces of instruments.
2. Sterilization Phase (+2.1 to +2.45 bar)
Steam is introduced and maintained at a constant pressure between 2.1 and 2.45 bar, depending on the selected cycle (121°C or 134°C). This kills all microorganisms, including spores.
3. Post-Vacuum & Drying Phase (-0.8 to -0.9 bar)
A final vacuum removes moisture from the load. Pressure drops again to around -0.9 bar, ensuring dry, sterile instruments ready for immediate storage or use.
Pressure Summary:
Phase |
Approx. Pressure |
|---|---|
| Pre-Vacuum | -0.8 to -0.9 bar |
| Sterilization | +2.1 to +2.45 bar |
| Drying (Post-Vac) | -0.8 to -0.9 bar |
